Petri Nets Modeling of Dead-End Refinement Problems in a 3D Anisotropic hp-Adaptive Finite Element Method

چکیده
We consider two graph grammar based Petri nets models for anisotropic refinements of three dimensional hexahedral grids. The first one detects possible dead-end problems during the graph grammar based anisotropic refinements of the mesh. The second one employs an enhanced graph grammar model that is actually dead-end free. We apply the resulting algorithm to the simulation of resistivity logging measurements for estimating the location of underground oil and/or gas formations. The graph grammar based Petri net models allow to fix the self-adaptive mesh refinement algorithm and finish the adaptive computations with the required accuracy needed by the numerical solution. 426 A. 3D hp-Adaptive Finite Element Simulations of a Magic-T Electromagnetic Waveguide Structure
This paper employs a 3D hp self-adaptive grid-refinement finite element strategy for the solution of a particular electromagnetic waveguide structure known as Magic-T. This structure is utilized as a power divider/combiner in communication systems as well as in other applications. It often incorporates dielectrics, metallic screws, round corners, and so on, which may facilitate its construction...
متن کاملPerformance of hp-Adaptive Strategies for 3D Elliptic Problems
The hp version of the finite element method (hp-FEM) combined with adaptive mesh refinement is a particularly efficient method for solving partial differential equations (PDEs) because it can achieve an exponential convergence rate in the number of degrees of freedom. hp-FEM allows for refinement in both the element size, h, and the polynomial degree, p. Like adaptive refinement for the h versi...
متن کاملPreventing deadlock during anisotropic 2D mesh adaptation in hp-adaptive FEM
The paper presents a grammar for anisotropic two-dimensional mesh adaptation in hp-adaptive Finite Element Method with rectangular elements. It occurs that a straightforward approach to modeling this process via grammar productions leads to potential deadlock in h-adaptation of the mesh. This fact is shown on a Petri net model of an exemplary adaptation. Therefore auxiliary productions are adde...
متن کاملHow High a Degree is High Enough for High Order Finite Elements?
High order finite element methods can solve partial differential equations more efficiently than low order methods. But how large of a polynomial degree is beneficial? This paper addresses that question through a case study of three problems representing problems with smooth solutions, problems with steep gradients, and problems with singularities. It also contrasts hadaptive, p-adaptive, and h...
متن کاملA POSTERIORI ERROR ESTIMATES OF hp-FEM FOR OPTIMAL CONTROL PROBLEMS
Finite element approximation plays an important role in the numerical methods of optimal control problems. There have been extensive theoretical and numerical studies for the finite element approximation of various optimal control problems. However the literature is too huge to even give a very brief review here. In recent years, the adaptive finite element method has been extensively investiga...
